Open Call is inspired by globally recognizable format of institutional calls
for the creation of artworks or exhibitions „custom made“ for the commissioner.
The projects builds on the thematic unit of the Gallery Weltecho for 2013
sub-titled Pfadfinder, but simultaneously it points out the problematic interface
of contemporary international art and partial loss of authorial freedom within
the rules of artistic operation. However, the conceptual answer in this case
does not lie in institutional critique or, on the contrary, reflexive self-defence
in the form of benevolent loose cooperation of a curator with artists – friends.

The project limits the list of rules and regulations that condition the final form
of exposed artworks. The authors are restricted in the planned installation
by six key rules in total thematizing concepts as, for instance, dimension,
target audience or copyright. Reduction of the creative field emphasizes
the search for the content part of the whole year’s program of the Gallery Weltecho.
This year´s theme of search and exploration is understood by Al-Ali and Moravec
as study of the basic qualities of search. Through the revision of the relation
between the measure of a human figure and the surrounding world, they
undertake a playful tour in which they exchange traditional artistic disciplines
for the demonstration of human capability to identify verified physical phenomena
behind an abstract message.

The authors´ videos and objects are manifestations of „basic research“.
The „applied“ is left exclusively to the viewers. They themselves go beyond
the drill of site specific cooperation and for the first time work together on a broader
cycle of works that could be transferred into various galleries. The result of this
constellation is not the constant negotiation of authors with gallery situation but
defragmented installation paraphrasing main principles of scouting or, better,
its idealistic background. The authors test legitimacy of graphic use of iconographic
concepts (watch, flag, rope, etc.) and capacity of manipulation of a viewer through
optical illusion. In an effort to escape from the curators‘ dictate they test the fragile
border between ideals, ideology and demagogy. They practice diplomacy whose
aim is not to push one´s own interests but rather the search for something that
we may call collective sharing of authenticity.

Open Call vychází z globálně rozpoznatelného formátu institucionálních výzev k vytvoření
uměleckých děl či výstav „na zakázku“ vyhlašovatele. Projekt staví na tematickém celku
Galerie Weltecho pro rok 2013 s podtitulem Pfadfinder, ale zároveň upozorňuje na
problematický interface současného mezinárodního umění a na dílčí ztrátu autorské
svobody v rámci pravidel uměleckého provozu. Koncepční odpovědí však v daném případě
není institucionální kritika nebo naopak reflexní sebeobrana v podobě benevolentní rozvolněné
spolupráce kurátora s umělci - přáteli.

Projekt vymezuje seznam sebraných pravidel a regulací podmiňujících výslednou podobu
vystavených artefaktů. Autoři jsou v plánované instalaci omezeni celkem šesti klíčovými
pravidly tematizujícími pojmy jako například rozměr, cílový divák nebo práva autora.
Zúžení tvůrčího pole klade důraz na hledání obsahové stránky celoročního programu Galerie Weltecho.
Letošní téma průzkumu a objevování proto Al-Ali a Moravec uchopují jako nauku o základních
kvalitách objevování. Prostřednictvím revize vztahu měřítka lidské postavy a okolního světa
podnikají hravé turné, ve kterém mění tradiční umělecké disciplíny na demonstraci lidské
schopnosti identifikovat za abstraktním sdělením ověřené fyzikální jevy.

Videa a objekty autorů jsou projevy „základního výzkumu“. Ten „aplikovaný“ nechávají výhradně
na divákovi. Sami překračují ověřený dril site specific spolupráce a poprvé společně pracují na širším
cyklu děl přenosném do různých výstavních prostor. Výsledkem této konstelace není průběžné vyjednávání
autorů s galerijní situací, ale defragmentovaná instalace parafrázující hlavní principy skautingu
či ještě lépe jeho myšlenkového pozadí. Autoři testují legitimnost grafického využití ikonografických pojmů
(hlídka, vlajka, lano, ad.) a kapacitu manipulace diváka skrze optickou iluzi. Ve snaze uniknout
kurátorskému diktátu pokoušejí křehkou hranici mezi ideály, ideologií a demagogií.
Praktikují diplomacii, jejímž cílem není prosazení vlastních zájmů, ale hledání čehosi,
co můžeme nazvat kolektivním sdílením autentičnosti.
